Works in progress

January 7th, 2009

Just to let you know… check back on the Leslie du Mont Photography website and blog frequently as big changes are coming in 2009! You’ll already notice some disarray with the blog layout as we get the basics set up here. So, please pardon the mess, but the end product is going to be exciting! How exciting? Well, look for the first clue soon!

FYI, I’m currently booking photography sessions for March. Usually I’m booked 4-6 weeks out. (Please plan accordingly and contact me to reserve your date early.)

For those of you with your own websites, I can’t tell you how having your site on your own domain will help you in your SEO rankings. Out with the old and in with the new!

January 21st, 2008

New Year!  New fluff!  New stuff!  Stay tuned for big doings at Leslie du Mont Photography!  We’ve got some big changes in the works: upgraded equipment, brand-spanking new products, updated fresh packaging and some really hot special promotions in the works.  How exciting!  Check back soon for updates …and photos. Of course!

So, after my last Blog post showing a photo grouping over a couch, I had a request to demonstrate how to place a collection over a bed, too.  I was happy to do so using one of my favorite subjects from last year!  You may recognize D. J.’s face from local stage productions in SC including Little Orphan Annie!

 Take care and stay warm.

FYI: Size Does Matter

January 6th, 2008

During our ordering sessions, occasionally clients tell me that they aren’t sure about hanging portraits bigger than an an 8 x 10 or 11 x 14 in their house. “11 x 14s are just so big! Why would I need anything bigger on my walls?” I think that giving examples of exactly how your prints will look in groupings in a real house will help you make realistic purchasing decisions.

The photo below is of a typical sofa in a typical living room. Go ahead and look down there. It shows two 16 x 20s grouped with a 30 x 40. (Yes, I said a 30 x 40.) Notice how the smaller two prints frame the larger print? And how overall the collection gives a much more custom and together look? Do you see how the collection complements the size of the sofa? Can you imagine just putting one 11 x 14 on the wall now? Nope. I didn’t think so! ;-) See? Size does matter!

Take care.

Merry Christmas at the Beach

December 15th, 2007

Welcome to my new, updated blog! I’m so excited about starting the new year by opening my photography business’ doors here in Virginia Beach that I decided to switch to a wordpress blog! Leslie du Mont Photography will be open January 4th.

This past weekend was exceptionally warm for Virginia Beach in December. At Sandbridge it was 76 degrees at 4pm! 76?? That is normal in December for Panama City Beach maybe, but not for Virginia! So, we took advantage of the bizarre weather and fit in a photo session for an old friend and repeat client.

Here is your sneaky peak!

Gobble, gobble!

November 18th, 2007

In four short days Thanksgiving will be upon us! Can you believe it? Where have the past six months gone? This year we have so very much to be thankful for that I don’t even know where to begin. I hope that you and your family take some time for reflection this week and celebrate being together.

After all the Thanksgiving leftovers have been eaten, don’t forget to venture out in your warm woolies to attend a local tradition here in Virginia Beach - the Holiday Parade! The parade at the Beach kicks off at 5:30pm on December 1st running north on Atlantic Avenue. Large balloons, marching bands and a certain someone wearing a red suit will all be there! Virginia Beach has enjoyed this tradition for thirteen years now. Don’t miss it!

Have a safe and happy turkey day no matter where you are!

D-done, done, DONE!

November 4th, 2007

It has been a long journey into unchartered waters for me and my oncology team, but I am finally done with my cancer treatments! Yes, my chemotherapy and radiation (both external and high dose)are finally done!! My beloved Dr. Bidus likes to say things like “It is what it is” and this def. was what it was! My always entertaining radiology doc Dr. Wilds won’t be reminded of what body parts he doesn’t have during our chats that kept us laughing! These two men and their loving departments have been my saints and saviors for the past six months. Words can’t express how much they have done for me and my family during this very difficult time. My love goes out to them all.

What is next for me? It might take a month or more for my body to feel completely “normal” again. I’m still feeling several of the effects of the treatments, but I feel confident that I’m getting better with every day that goes by.

Unfortunately what this means for Leslie du Mont Photography is that after giving this a lot of soul searching, the studio will not be open until after the holidays. I still have a couple of wonderful local Virginia Beach photographers that I can refer my inquiries to in the mean time. I just know that I’d hate to not be able to give my all to my wonderful clients! Please check my website’s online calendar for available session dates after the first of the year.

Thanks again for all of your love and support. Hopefully I’ll be picking up my camera soon!
